Bread and buns, baked fresh right here in Roseville, are a mainstay on breakfast tables and at family barbecues across the Midwest.

Bimbo Bakeries USA (BBU) is the largest commercial baking company in the United States, and its Roseville plant operates around the clock to satisfy the region’s appetite for fresh-baked products.
“We produce upwards of 800,000 to 1 million packages of bread and buns each week,” said Roseville Plant Manager Patrick Milleson. “We produce baked goods for our core brand Sara Lee. We bake buns for popular restaurant chains and retailers that Roseville residents know and love."

"Many people are surprised to know the products they enjoy are baked locally in Roseville.”

BBU is part of Grupo Bimbo, the world’s largest baking company founded in Mexico in 1945 with operations in 35 countries. BBU’s brands include many household names, such as Thomas’, Lender’s Bagels, and Nature’s Harvest, to name a few. Bimbo, pronounced Beembo, is a combination of Bingo, a popular song in America in the 1940s and the Disney movie Bambi.

Products baked at Roseville’s facility at Interstate 35W and County Road C end up on shelves across the Midwest, including in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

“Roseville is a prime central location for the distribution and sales centers we deliver to,” Milleson said. BBU has two other Minnesota facilities: South St. Paul, where they produce bagels, and Fergus Falls, where they produce bread.

The Roseville plant employs more than 160 full-time team members, with an average tenure of around 12 years. Over 60% of the workforce is diverse. Summer grilling season is their busy season with demand for buns peaking, Milleson said.

Philanthropy is baked into BBU’s corporate culture. They support good causes each year through their Good Neighbor Program. Locally, BBU sponsors Roseville Police Department’s Shop with a Cop program, which helps families and children during the holidays. BBU hosts give-back events and meals for first responders, including police officers and firefighters.

This year, BBU is donating to Roseville Parks and Recreation, planting trees and flowers. They also donate to Salvation Army, which has a regional headquarters in Roseville.

“We strive to Nourish a Better World by supporting the communities in which we live and work”. Milleson said.
