Rosedale celebrates Small Business Saturday!

Small businesses play a crucial role in communities like Roseville and are essential for the economic and social health of Rosedale.

Rosedale Center is the region’s second most visited shopping center, with annual sales exceeding $300 million. Many of the 150+ establishments are owned or run by locals who rely on the holiday season for their success.

“A diverse retail mix brings success and the community wants to support small business owners who live here,” said Lisa Crain, Rosedale Center Vice President, Retail. “Having many small shops in Rosedale Center is a win-win for everyone."

Small businesses at Rosedale include:

  • Blind Havoc, where shoppers find branded streetwear at a stand-alone kiosk. The clothing design sprouted from owner Jayton Metcalf’s wish to spread positive messaging countering the negativity stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Rose & Loon, where sisters-owners Anna Hagen and Nikki Hollerich offer store space for mini-makers to sell their crafts, wares and other goods.
  • C-Nature: Channa’s plants make great gifts.
  • Cairo’s Canvas: Student entrepreneur canvas pictures.
  • Legacy Toys: Family-owned local toy store focusing on educational toys that help kids explore and use their imagination.
  • Woodhouse Spa is a national luxury day spa chain, but a local franchisee runs the Rosedale Center location.

Offering a start

Rosedale Center is intentional about nurturing small businesses, interviewing prospects about their ideas, reviewing business plans and educating them on ownership aspects. It seeks local entrepreneurs with products that have a specific, unique appeal to fill much of its space, being creative with short-term and seasonal leases, often in unique settings like kiosks or small push carts.

“Specialty leases are a huge economic driver for Rosedale Center and allow new businesses a less-costly opportunity to test the waters of business ownership,” Crain said.

The Center’s Potluck Food Hall has businesses run by local individuals who showcase their cooking with kitchen equipment provided by the mall while learning to run a business. An example is Tio’s Tacos and chef Adam Randall’s take on authentic Mexican street food and traditional comfort food.

“The concept delivers a robust menu, which is a huge win for Rosedale Center, but we want to help bright ideas flourish, even if they excel to the point of moving elsewhere,” said Crain.

Community potential

The Center’s appeal draws consumers into Roseville from throughout the Twin Cities, greater Minnesota and Western Wisconsin.

“We want people to find unique gifts in Rosedale Center and spend time at businesses throughout Roseville to benefit the overall community,” said Crain.

Small business slots at Rosedale Center are full at the moment, but Crain states that should not be a deterrent.

“Call our main office at (651) 638-3553 to get on our waitlist,” she said. “We can explain how the process works and help you prepare for when openings occur.”
