Individual and couples therapy with in-person and virtual appointments.
Considering one’s mental health is often regarded as an internal, solitary endeavor. Yet focusing on positive relationships can substantially affect a person’s mental well-being, health and mood.
“Everyone has those times when they need to process feelings or past wounds, so there isn’t anyone who can’t benefit from support and therapy,” said Rebecca Adams, owner/founder of Roseville’s Elevate Counseling Center. “If there is one message I would want to convey to the people of Roseville, it is that change and healing is possible for everyone, with hope for mental and emotional health struggles. We are one option for beginning a healing journey.”
Focus on relationship
Elevate offers individual, family and couples therapy, both in-person at their Roseville office and through virtual appointments for anyone in the State of Minnesota. Adams holds a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and is a Licensed Family and Marriage Therapist. Her staff includes two other therapists, and together, they are a group of mental health professionals committed to helping people improve themselves and their relationships. Their expertise consists of a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma and relationship struggles, helping people heal from their past and work toward their goals. The crux of their approach revolves around relationships.
“We try to leverage relationships in a family, couple or individual situation, as many people cannot get away from struggles with relationships, thoughts and emotions,” said Adams. “Getting an individual's relationships to a good place will have an outsized effect on mental health and outlook to have the ability to enjoy life.”
Dedicated entrepreneur
Adams knew at an early age that counseling was a path she could take, and she was drawn to the combination of helping others and the creativity of entrepreneurship.
“I grew up having Kool-aid stands and always knew I wanted to have some kind of business of my own,” she said. “Creating my own business was a chance for me to express my creativity and to be an agent of change in the community.”
Roseville presented an excellent opportunity to pursue that dream of owning a counseling center. Leasing an office in Roseville’s Windsor Plaza is a wonderful location between Minneapolis and St. Paul, as many people have sought mental health services precisely because of the quiet and accessible location, with two large parking lots and a bus line just outside the building.
“It’s typically hard enough to decide to start therapy, but once a person has taken that courageous step, we want to make it as easy as possible to find the location, get here, park, etc., and our site in Roseville has made that possible,” said Adams.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Elevate did not offer virtual therapy. Adams and her staff adapted to provide the option, but having only two offices in their space meant a lack of flexibility to provide in-person and virtual services at the same time efficiently. With the help of the Roseville Economic Development Authority (REDA), Elevate was able to utilize a microloan to purchase and set up a privacy pod to provide a mostly soundproof setting for telehealth counseling.
In collaboration with Open to Business, the REDA developed a microloan program to assist businesses in making capital improvements to grow in Roseville. The loan is forgiven once the business has either increased employees or demonstrated that the funds are necessary to help prevent specific job loss.
“The pod is essentially like adding a third office,” said Adams. “Now, switching from in-person to virtual service is as simple as walking into the pod and getting to work.”
Beyond the location benefits, Adams believes Roseville offers an excellent setting for businesses and residents with its outstanding schools, phenomenal shopping, diverse opportunities and plentiful parks.
“Spending time in nature is great for mental health, so I highly recommend exploring those!” she said.
