News, Success Stories, Choose Roseville

Support for small, local businesses has increased throughout the country to help communities rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic. While that effort may seem difficult for many, it can be relatively simple in Roseville, MN.

“Roseville has a collection of small businesses that I choose to work with as a small business owner in the city myself,” said Elvir Rekic, owner of Kitchens Made Simple. “I like to work with other local business owners, like electricians, plumbers and others, because we build great relationships and our customers like knowing we work together to get jobs done quickly and with great quality.”

Remodeling made simple

Kitchens Made Simple is a coordinated designer/retailer/contractor team in kitchen remodeling. From cabinets to countertops and flooring, Kitchens Made Simple makes kitchen remodeling just that - simple!

Most of their work is with kitchens, but they delve into basements and bathrooms as requested. Rekic and his staff perform home consultations and 3d rendering to develop project plans, with customers frequently requesting popular features like white shaker cabinets, two-tone kitchen schemes, quartz cabinet tops, Cambria and luxury vinyl tile flooring.

“I believe customers choose us because we are a one-stop shop for remodeling projects, no matter the scope,” said Rekic. “Options are as varied as their imagination and we enjoy taking their ideas to reality in their homes.”

The unique nature of his business lies in his interest in involving homeowners as much as they want. Some make color or pattern selections and then get out of the way, while others like to save money by doing some of the tasks, like priming, painting or demolition, themselves.

Roseville location

Kitchens Made Simple has been in Roseville since 2008, when it was located at MN-280 and West Broadway, before moving to its current location on County Road D near 35W. The business’ central location at the high-traffic intersection of 35W and Highway D places it in a high-profile position in Roseville. But it also offers access to clients from New Brighton, Shoreview, Minneapolis and St. Paul, with approximately 60% of business coming from surrounding cities.

Roseville MN News, Kitchens Made SimpleAfter a few changes of ownership, Rekic purchased it in April 2021, after his own path of various business experiences. He completed a Building Inspection degree in 2008, hoping to pursue that career. But the housing recession limited job opportunities, so he ventured into management roles with various companies. After several years in that capacity, he decided to skip the corporate world, starting his own finishing carpentry business. He had a few interactions with Kitchens Made Simple across several months, liking that it had an established showroom and cabinet lines. As the owners at the time considered retirement, the timing was perfect for Rekic to purchase the business. Today, he has five employees who are creative designers, experienced remodelers and an accountant, but he wears multiple hats, covering all aspects of the business.

“My background in management, building inspection and carpentry has allowed me to be involved with sales, project management and fieldwork,” he said.

With a little more than one year under his belt at the helm of Kitchens Made Simple, Rekic has already seen a significant change in the market.

“Last year, everyone wanted the work done by yesterday, but now, supply issues are impacting workflow,” he said. “We used to start projects about two weeks before supplies arrived, but now we arrange the actual work once we have cabinets or other material in hand.”

He has found that customers appreciate his honesty about his and his employee’s capabilities.

“We offer reasonable prices and scope of work, which many customers are truly amazed at,” said Rekic. “But building that trust with clientele is essential for small businesses.”
